ABOUT THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2014 NCAA Championships will begin Friday and the six-day event will conclude on May 28. The Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., and Wichita State will host the event. Three days of stroke play featuring all 156 players will begin on Wednesday at 7 a.m. The fourth and final round of stroke play will feature the top 40 players after the first three days, and the individual national champion will be crowned. Tuesday and Wednesday will feature three rounds of match play featuring the top eight teams after the first three days of stroke play.

THE FIELD
The NCAA Championship field consists of the six Regional champions (Alabama, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Illinois) and 24 other squads plus the top six individuals from each regional not on an advancing team. 22 of the top-25 players will be competing, including Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers, who won the Ben Hogan Award and is the top-ranked amateur in the world. Five of the top 10 amateurs in the world will be competing: Patrick Rodgers (Stanford), Oliver Schniederjans (Georgia Tech), Cameron Wilson (Stanford), Robby Shelton (Alabama) and Bryson Dechambeau (SMU). SMU is one of two American Athletic Conference teams at the event, with Houston pegged as a 10-seed. In total, 156 players will hit the links beginning Friday at 7 a.m.

Well, SMU is in the lead at -1. Unfortunately, only twelve teams even started and they have been in a lightning delay most of the morning.

It looks like Hutchinson is in for quite a bit of stormy weather over the next few days so this tournament might take a while...

Now there are 15 teams on the course but have just stopped play for another rain delay. SMU is tied for second at -2. Our guys are so consistent. Bryson E, Higgs +1, Buchanan +2, Burgess -1, Smotherman -2. They have finished holes 5-7. Wish I could be there to watch this. Pressure is unbelievable during a championship week. I coached men's and women's high school golf for many years and took a few to the State tournament and it is an amazing time for both players and coaches. Can't imagine what it is like at the college level. Here is a link if you want to follow along during the day.

Good first round. Finished -5 and alone in 3rd. The 1-15 seeded teams are starting to play now so I expect us to drop a little but not much. We had a solid first round.

Finished the first round in 5th. Because of the rain delay we won't tee off our second round until early in the morning. Half the teams are playing their second round this afternoon. Stanford was +1 their first round and are currently -14 in the second round at the 11-14 holes.

Not a good start so far. +3 at the 6-8 holes. Play suspended for lightning. We are currently in 7th. Want to make the top 8 I believe so we can go into the match play format.

We just moved to -1 and a tie for 5th with 4th seed GT. Right now South Carolina is in the 8th spot at +2. The conditions must be rough out there.

I think we had one of the lower scores today. The ones better in the second round were completed yesterday. Seems like the guys are doing well.
