Although our Soccer team has been very good for decades, I cannot recall anyone from SMU playing on a WC team.

Surely, I must be forgetting someone??

On the women's side (in anticipation of 2015)...

Marci Miller (Jobson) played four seasons at SMU and was on the 2007 US World Cup squad, although she did not make an appearance.

Erin McLeod played two seasons at SMU and was the starting goalkeeper for Canada in both the 2007 and 2011 World Cups, and is still the number one GK for Canada who is hosting the 2015 World Cup.

Danielle Garrett (Fotopoulos) played two seasons at SMU and was on the US team that won the 1999 World Cup.

In general this is a true statement, and the dynamic is always changing.

Interestingly, 11 of the 16 American players on the current US World Cup squad did play in college.

Saw a story over the weekend that said more and more of the elite young players are going straight to academies with the professional teams.

I ran into Nuñez a few weeks ago. Hard to believe he's already 28 years old!
He said he's still playing, but took some time off this year after the birth of his child.
