Midwestern State Transfer Camara Set To Join SMU For 2014 Season
Aug. 4, 2014
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU head coach Tim McClements has announced the addition of Midwestern State transfer Idrissa ("Idi") Camara to the Mustangs' program. The 6-3 junior forward will be eligible to play immediately.
"Idi will be a great addition to the SMU soccer program," McClements said. "He is a tall and athletic central forward with excellent experience in college and with the Colorado Rapids. Idi is not just a big body who will punish defenders physically. He's also technically gifted possessing the ability to combine with teammates or beat defenders one-on-one. We look for Idi to make a significant impact this fall."
As a sophomore at MSU, Camara was second on the team in all three scoring categories including goals (5), assists (4) and points (14).
Prior to his time at Midwestern State, he was a member of the Colorado Rapids Development Academy. During the 2010-11 season he led the team with 15 goals in 24 matches, and was again in the top three during the 2011-12 season with 10 goals in 23 games. Idi has also made two appearances as an amateur with the Colorado Rapids Reserves of Major League Soccer.
Originally from Mali, West Africa, Camara moved to the United States in 2006.
Camara joins recent signee Jordan Cano as well as eight others for 2014. The Mustangs begin exhibition play against Houston Baptist on Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. CT at Westcott Field, while regular season action begins on Aug. 29 at Michigan State.
