SMU's Bryson Dechambeau did something that the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson couldn't - post a 61 at the World Amateur Team Championships. Dechambeau's record-breaking round (10-under) this morning also pushed the United States to the top of the leaderboard entering tomorrow's final round. The USA holds a three-stroke edge over Sweden after three rounds.
Dechambeau also tied the lowest nine-hole score in event history with a 29 on the front nine. Dechambeau totaled 11 birdies on the round, including six straight to end the day.
"Today I got off to a hot start and made a couple putts early and just kept going," Dechambeau said. "I didn't do my best on 8 and 9; I missed a little five-footer on 9 and three-putted on 8 although I was off the green. Other than that it was a great round. I finished with six birdies and I've never done something like that so I'm excited to shoot that number and I'm ready for tomorrow."
