Other Sports Games being Scheduled during Football

Does anyone else have a problem with this? I saw that the volleyball game the other week was during the football game. Assuming that all students want to support/ be involved with boulevarding and football / other sports. Was there really no way to prevent "doubling" up on events for the day?

Yes. I found the timing of the volleyball match odd.

I assume that the volleyball schedule is pretty much set in stone...at least what day they play, but not sure if there is any flexibility in the time. The problem is that football game times are not set at the beginning of the season...it is a TV network decision made only a week or so before the game day. I suppose volleyball could be always scheduled any day but Saturday, but doesn't the conference make the schedule?

Correct. The volleyball match was a strange one though because we were hosting a tournament that weekend. SMU knew the A&M game was that weekend, and would certainly be on Saturday, so it seemed like an odd weekend to host a tournament. Maybe it was the only free weekend before conference play started because of our other tournament obligations.
Also, they probably couldn't move that particular volleyball match to the evening since the opponent would have wanted to travel home Saturday night (unless we wanted to pay to put them up that night which I am sure we wouldn't want to do).
I do think they try to avoid scheduling any activities for other sports on football game days. I know last season, there was a women's soccer game scheduled on Friday, but then the Tech football game got moved to Friday and they couldn't change the soccer date because of other games for both teams, so they had to play the soccer game at noon Friday.
Just this past weekend, women's soccer had BYU scheduled, and since BYU does not play on Sundays they had to play it Saturday, and they couldn't announce the soccer start time until the football time was announced. I'm sure that was controlled though where they knew they could play the soccer game early if the football game was at night, or play it at night if the football game was at 11am which is what ended up happening.
There are also usually some early-season basketball conflicts, which will be more difficult to navigate now with the fluid football schedule. Don't forget last year we were double-booked with football and basketball and only "rescued" by the ice storm. If Moody was open who knows what would have happened with the scheduling.
Obviously, it's more difficult now with our better football TV package, but I do think they do their best to avoid any potential conflicts.
