Sjöström Named American Athletic Conference's Athlete Of The Week
Sophomore Placed Second At Notre Dame Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (The American/SMU) – SMU women’s cross country runner Agnes Sjöström was named the American Athletic Conference’s Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
At the 59th Annual Notre Dame Invitational last Friday, Sjöström, a sophomore, finished second out of 165 runners in the 5K race. Her time of 16:17.7 not only set a personal record, but is the second-fastest 5K in SMU history.
The 5K record is held by Silje Fjortoft, who clocked a time of 16:07.0 at the Conference USA Championships in 2011.
Sjöström led the Mustangs to an eighth-place in the 20-school field. The Köping, Sweden, native finished just eight seconds behind the race-winner, Charlotte Arter of New Mexico.

SMU will have this upcoming weekend off, before heading to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 17. This meet will be the final race before the AAC championships on Oct. 31 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
