Why games at 8 AM? So SMU players can still go to class that day?

No idea. It seems like they could still go to class with games in the evening, right?

That start time is tough for both the visitor and the home team. It isn't like the facilities are used 24/7. The only real benefit I can see is if the visitor needs to fly out soon after the game.

Some pro and some semi-pro.
To give you some idea, the United States soccer levels (obviously with no promotion/relegation) are:
1. MLS
2. NASL
3. USL
NPSL and PDL are considered fourth-tier.
