DALLAS (SMU) - SMU golfer Ryan Burgess was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced today.
For a Division I collegiate golfer to receive the honor, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average of 76.0 or below and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20.
Burgess began his 2014-15 campaign in March after missing the fall season due to injury. His best finish came at the Robert Kepler Invitational, where he tied for 13th at 4-over par. Burgess, a native of Rancho Santa Fe, California, played a crucial role for SMU in the NCAA Championships, carding a 1-under 71 in the third round to help the Mustangs advance to the final round of stroke play and finish 14th overall.
Burgess has played in 26 total events for SMU, and posted his best career finish in his first collegiate event, tying for ninth at the Gopher Invitational in 2012.
