SMU had a solid defense last year, especially considering how many young players were in the back. But the return of Michael King from a knee injury that cost him the 2014 season gives the Mustangs a very different look. Last year, then-freshman goalkeeper Michael Nelson used his size to take care of a lot of balls in the air. He still can, and the other defenders are pretty solid, but King is tall (6-2), leaps well and has exceptional timing. There was a stretch in the second half Saturday when it seemed like he cleared every ball out of the box on ICU corners.

This is not to say King is the new anchor of the defense, or even that he'll start (he didn't start Friday). But with Garrett Welch coming back from a knee injury he suffered last year in the AAC tournament — and Welch looked pretty good in limited minutes Saturday — King's return is a nice boost to the SMU defense.

Are the exhibition games free/cheap for non-students? My friend would like to go; I'm a new grad student here so I'm not sure how tickets works for sports that typically don't draw a crowd.

Yes, the exhibitions are free and open to the public.

I believe the regular season games are free for students as well, but I am not sure.

are we good or do these teams just suck? I would think the spread would be more then 2 vs UTD and Incarnate.
