DALLAS (SMU) - Bryson DeChambeau has been named the Southern Golf Association National Amateur of the Month for August, the SGA announced this week. The Mustang previously won this honor in June.
In August, DeChambeau won the U.S. Amateur Championship, defeating Derek Bard 7 and 6 in the final round. The SMU senior joined Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ryan Moore as the only players to win the NCAA Individual Championship and the U.S. Amateur in the same year.
The Clovis, California native was selected to the U.S. Walker Cup team and will compete in the Walker Cup on Sept. 12 at the Royal Lytham and St. Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England.
DeChambeau was selected unanimously by the award's blue-chip national panel of golf coaches, officials and media. The 13-year-old award open to males and females in all age groups, runs March-through-October and is one of the many ways the SGA supports and enhances amateur golf.
