Update: New SMU Aquatic Center

In the most recent SMU Campaign (Second Century) Update Newsletter there is a request for contributions to a new Aquatic Center. To be built on the University's East Campus (east of the Expressway), the new facility would have a 50 meter indoor pool and diving well and seating for 800 fans.

To date, $16m has been committed by SMU Supporters, but Administration still needs another $6m by October 2105 to secure the project's development.

It has been a long time coming, but this project may happen. My contributions won't begin to close the gap, but every donor helps. Wish us luck! Demolished and historic Perkins Natatorium will always be in my heart, but SMU needs a competitive facility to build on our rich and deep traditions of swimming & diving teams, both men and women.

Pony Up!

2105........ is the net, net that we have plenty of time to raise the $6 million, or is it that we won't build it until 2105 with an additional $6 million ? And, which way will the lane stripes run in this size of pool ? so many questions it hurts my head.

Stripes will run both ways. Pool can be configured with a bulk head to be 50 meters long, 2 x 25 in length and/or some variation swimming/practicing using all or part of the 25 yards wide width. Depends on how you want to swim. Imagine being able to have 25 swimmers training in their own lane if you use the 25 yard width configuration.

really hope I live to see the completion of this east campus athletics complex. I guess I will have to start buying lottery tickets because that's the only chance I have of making a difference in this campaign. Would love to see quality swimming & diving and soccer facilities completed to make room for the long awaited IPF adjacent to Ford. Every time I visit Dallas, I'm amazed at the improvements that have been made on the SMU campus

I hope no swimmers swim into each other, if one is swimming lengths and the other is swimming widths.
