Sept. 10, 2015
INDIANAPOLIS (SMU) – SMU men’s divers Devin Burnett and Bryce Klein have made the qualification list for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials to be held in Indianapolis June 18-26, 2016.
Burnett, who was a 12-time conference champion and All-American during his time at SMU, qualified in both the 3-meter and the platform dive. At the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship, Burnett won both events en route to his fourth consecutive Diver of the Meet honor. In each of Burnett’s seasons with the Mustangs, he was an NCAA Zone Diving qualifier.
Sophomore Klein will also make the trip to Indianapolis, competing in 3-meter and 3-meter synchronized events. In synchro, Klein has qualified with fellow Southlake, Texas, native Bradley Christensen, who attends Stanford University, and Dwight Dumais out of Austin, Texas. Divers may qualify for the event with multiple partners, but may only compete on up to two teams per event at the Trials.
During summer action, Klein and Christensen placed sixth in the 3-meter synchro at the World University Games. The sophomore also participated in USA Diving Nationals and Championship Trials.
Both Burnett and Klein will participate at Winter Nationals Dec. 15-20 in Indianapolis.
The pair joins Tyler Rauth, who hit the trials cut in the 100-meter butterfly at USA Swimming Nationals on Aug. 8 in San Antonio. Swimming trials are set to take place in Omaha, Nebraska, June 26-July 3, 2016.
