Volleyball: 2015 SMU Doubletree Invitational

The Mustangs (7-2) conclude the non-conference portion of the 2015 schedule this weekend as hosts of the SMU Doubletree Invitational.
Friday, the Mustangs face Clemson at 1pm and TCU at 7:30pm. Saturday, SMU will meet UTSA at 3:30pm.
SMU is currently receiving votes in the top 25 poll, and will be looking for another tournament championship before conference play starts in The American.

SMU sweeps Clemson 25-8, 25-10, 25-17.
The Mustangs face TCU at Moody tonight at 7:30.

Nice win tonight, beating TCU 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19, 15-13).
Avery Acker set a conference record with 67 assists.
Kills everywhere with Abbey Bybel, Cailin Bula, and Kristen Stehling each with 14. Janelle Giordano had 13 as well. Katie Hegarty added 10.
Morgan Heise had 34 digs.
SMU is now 9-2. The Mustangs face UTSA Saturday at 3:30pm.

SMU defeats UTSA 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23). The Mustangs win the SMU Doubletree Invitational.

Avery Acker was named the tournament MVP. Morgan Heise was the best libero.
Abbey Bybel and Kristen Stehling made the all-tournament team as well.
SMU (10-2) starts The American season next weekend at Houston and Tulane.

SMU swept the weekly conference awards, with Avery Acker winning the offensive player of the week and Morgan Heise winning the defensive player of the week!

Acker was named the Most Valuable Player of the DoubleTree Invitational over the weekend. The senior setter averaged 13.92 per set and directed SMU to a .287 attack percentage as the Mustangs went a perfect 3-0 to claim the tournament title. Acker eclipsed 60 assists in two of three matches – including establishing a new conference record with 67 helpers against TCU. The Poth, Texas native recorded double-doubles in a three-set win over Clemson (39 assists, 12 digs) and in a come-from-behind victory versus the Horned Frogs (67 assists, 18 digs). She tallied 61 assists and registered 9 digs against UTSA to close out the tournament. Acker ranks amongst the national leaders with 12.20 assists per set and has guided SMU to a 10-2 start to the season.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Heise received the Best Libero award - her third of the season - of the DoubleTree Invitational as SMU swept the field. She averaged 5.67 digs per set and only surrendered one reception error in 62 attempts for a .984 reception percentage to anchor the defense. The junior libero compiled 34 digs against TCU – her second 30-plus dig match of the season. The Hempstead, Texas product generated 15 digs and six assists against Clemson, and finished with 19 digs versus UTSA. Through 12 games Heise leads SMU with 5.70 digs per set.
