PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) – SMU’s Lindsey McCurdy has been named the American Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Month for September, the conference announced today.
McCurdy had an outstanding start to her junior season, as she helped her team to a first place finish at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational. The junior finished as the top player overall after carding a final round 66.
Her 75-73-66, 214, was tied for the third lowest 54-hole score in the tournament’s history. It was McCurdy’s first tournament victory of her collegiate career.
The Mustang followed that up with a solid performance at the East & West Match Play Challenge. In stroke play, McCurdy finished tied for ninth overall after shooting a 75-70, 145, through two rounds.
McCurdy would play even better in the match play portion of the tournament finishing undefeated in two matches. The Mustang defeated Wisconsin’s Tess Hackworthy, 1-Up, after shooting a 69, her best round of the tournament.
The junior downed Penn State’s Jackie Rogowicz in her final round of match play, 2 and 0. McCurdy finished match play second overall through the two rounds (69-74, 143).
McCurdy and the Mustangs will be back on the course on Oct. 19, when they take part in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
