Oct. 13, 2015

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (NSCAA/SMU) – The SMU men’s soccer team has made its way back into the NSCAA Division I Coaches Poll at No. 21 this week.

SMU enters the Top 25 after receiving votes for the past two weeks and posting a seven match unbeaten streak since Sept. 13. The Mustangs last occupied a spot on the Top 25 list in the Sept. 1 poll as they were No. 23.

The Ponies defeated American Athletic Conference opponents Memphis and Connecticut last week, and are currently tied with USF atop the conference standings. SMU leads the AAC in shots (194) and assists (28).

Mauro Cichero was named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week after scoring a goal in the Mustangs’ 3-1 victory over Memphis and the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Connecticut. SMU sits at No. 19 in the College Soccer News Top 30 National Poll.

After recording his fifth shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over Connecticut, goalkeeper Michael Nelson was honored by the AAC as the Goalkeeper of the Week. Nelson leads the conference in saves (42) and is sporting a 1.03 goals-against-average with a .750 save percentage.

The Mustangs take on Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT at Gettler Stadium.
