Cross country finishes second at AAC championship

Mustangs Earn Runner-Up At AAC Championship
Archer, Souza And Skatteboe Finish Seconds Apart In Top 10

GRIMESLAND, N.C. (SMU) – The SMU women’s cross country team finished as the American Athletic Conference runner-up with a final point score of 68 behind the 46 of Tulsa. Junior Holly Archer was the top finisher for the Mustangs with a 6K time of 20:47.73 coming in 7th place.

Seniors Shanoah Souza and Karoline Skatteboe weren’t far behind as Souza came in 8th place with a 20:49.26 time and Skatteboe came in 10th place with a time of 20:53.38. Their team score of 68 just held off the third place team in UConn who finished with 73 points.

The difference between the two was the finish of SMU’s 4th and 5th runners Rakel Barrientos and Agnes Sjostrom, Barrientos finished in 20th with a 21:29.81 time and Sjostrom finished in 23rd with a time of 21:40.49. Anneke Grogan and Rebekah Bosler also ran finishing 31st and 40th respectively, however only the top five finishers count towards the team score.

Temple’s Blanca Fernandez won the individual race with a time of 20:06.00 edging out UConn’s Emily Durgin. Tulsa’s top three finishers Rachel Baptista, Stacie Taylor and Nicole Lee finished 3rd, 5th and 6th to edge the top three of SMU.
