Nov. 5, 2015
NEW ORLEANS (SMU) – The SMU women’s cross country team has risen up a spot in the USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings from third to second and are also now receiving votes in the national polls.
This rise in the latest polls comes off of the Mustangs’ second place team finish at the American Athletic Conference Championship a week ago. Their 68 points placed them behind Tulsa’s 46 points and kept them 5 points ahead of UConn’s 73 points. Holly Archer, Shanoah Souzaand Karoline Skatteboe all finished the race in the top ten with Rakel Barrientos in 20th and Agnes Sjostrom finishing 23rd in her first race of the season.
SMU will hope the regional rankings hold true for next week’s NCAA South Central Regional meet as the top two finishers will qualify for the NCAA Championship. The rest of the South Central Region is led by national No. 3 Arkansas and the next below SMU are Rice at third, Texas at fourth, Stephen F. Austin at fifth and former number two, now sixth ranked Baylor.
The NCAA South Central Regional meet will be at College Station Texas at 11 a.m. CT on Nov. 13. Follow Mustang Cross Country on Twitter @SMUTrackFieldXC and on Instagram at smutrackandxc.
