Mustangs receiving votes for fifth straight week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (SMU) – The SMU women’s volleyball team continues to receive votes in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, climbing a spot to No. 27 based on the number of votes. The Mustangs extended their program-record win streak to 13 matches with a pair of road conference wins at Memphis and Cincinnati.

SMU is 23-3 overall, 13-1 in the American Athletic Conference, including a win over then-No. 18 San Diego, currently ranked No. 23. The Mustangs have received votes in each of the last five polls, dating back to Oct. 12, and have been mentioned in seven of 11 polls since the season started.

Avery Acker leads the NCAA with 12.29 assists per set, while Janelle Giordano holds the national lead with 155 total blocks. The junior middle blocker is second in blocks per set, 1.67, and 38th in hitting percentage, .386. Morgan Heise is fourth in the nation with 5.97 digs per set. The SMU defense is holding opponents to a .146 attack percentage.

SMU hosts Tulane Friday night at 7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum, and the Mustangs face Houston at home Sunday at 1 p.m. SMU can clinch at least a share of the American Athletic Conference Championship with two wins this weekend.
