No. 49 Mustangs, No. 58 Dishkova Climb ITA Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. (SMU) – The SMU women’s tennis team is in the ITA rankings for the second straight week, moving from No. 72 in last week’s rankings to No. 49 this week. Senior Hristina Dishkova came in at No. 58 in the singles rankings after her 7-0 start to the season.
The unbeaten Mustangs’ tightest match this season came against then 36th ranked Oklahoma University when they won 4-3 at home on Feb. 13. That has been the closest margin of victory for SMU this season as they also boast 7-0 sweeps against Sam Houston State and Northwestern State, 6-1 wins over Nevada and Montana State, and 5-2 wins against Abilene Christian and McNeese State.
Dishkova’s singles season mirrors the team’s start as her marquee win this season came against Oklahoma’s Lily Miyazaki, who was ranked 52nd at the time of the match and is now 78th. She has won all of her singles matches this season from the No. 1 position and was also named American Athletic Conference Female Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 2 after SMU’s first two matches of the season.
The Mustangs will play their first match since entering the rankings this Thursday when the travel to TCU to take on the Horned Frogs. They will come back to the SMU Tennis Complex for their first conference match against UConn on Sunday before hitting the road to face three straight ranked opponents in No. 21 Wichita State, No. 23 Kansas, and No. 70 Kansas State.
