MEMPHIS, Tenn. (SMU) – The third-seeded SMU Mustangs fell to the second-seeded Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 4-1, in the American Athletic Conference Semifinals on Saturday morning at Dunavant-Wellford Tennis Center in Memphis, Tenn.
SMU claimed the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead over Tulsa.
Juniors Hunter and Yates Johnson picked the first doubles match for the Mustangs over Matthew Kirby and Okkie Kellerman by a score of 6-3. With the win, the Johnson twins earn their 26th doubles win of the year, which places them second all-time for most doubles wins in a season in program history.
Junior Ronald Slobodchikov and sophomore Samm Butler gave SMU the doubles point after beating Majed Kilani and Carlos Bautista 6-4.
The Ponies will wait and see if they earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Championship. Selection Show will take place on Tuesday, May 3 at 4:30 p.m. CT and can be seen on NCAA.com.
