Mustangs Ranked 21st In Latest USTFCCCA National Coaches’ Poll
SMU Jumps Three Spots To No. 2 In South Central Region

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women’s cross country team cracked the top-25 and is ranked No. 21 in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches’ Poll, the organization announced Tuesday.

SMU is one of two American Athletic Conference teams that are ranked, with Tulsa coming in at No. 26. The Mustangs also moved up three spots from fifth to second in South Central regional rankings, while Tulsa is fifth in the Midwest. Four other AAC teams are regionally ranked including Tulane (8th, South Central), Memphis (11th, South), Houston (13th, South Central) and Temple (15th, Mid-Atlantic).

The Mustangs’ rise in the latest polls comes off their runner-up finish at the Virginia/Panorama Invitational last week at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. The field was loaded with eight other regionally ranked teams, including three nationally ranked teams. No. 19 BYU finished with 47 points to win the event followed by SMU with 89, while No. 16 Syracuse placed third with 98 and No. 14 Virginia came in fourth with 129.

Freshman Hannah Miller was third overall to lead a trio of Mustangs who finished the 5-kilometer race in the top-10. Freshman Charlotte-Tara Murphy and senior Holly Archer placed ninth and 10th, respectively.

The Mustangs will get three weeks to train before heading to Wisconsin to compete at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Oct. 14.
