Men's soccer edged by Temple

SMU Falls To Temple, 1-0, Saturday Night

DALLAS (SMU)—The SMU men's soccer team fell to Temple in a 1-0 decision Saturday night at Westcott Field. The Mustangs are now 4-8-0 and 0-3-0 in conference, while the Owls improve to 7-3-1 and 1-1-1 in The American.
Temple scored early as Jorge Gomez Sanchez found the back of the net from roughly 15 yards in the 13th minute of the match.
The Mustangs outshot the Owls, 17-16, including a 9-6 advantage in the second half. SMU's defense also improved in the second period, only allowing six total shots after Temple's 10 first half shots.
Junior midfielder Mauro Cichero led all Mustangs with nine shots and four on goal. Junior goalkeeper Michael Nelson recorded four saves in 90 minutes of play.
"As for effort, there is nothing we can complain about," SMU assistant coach Alex Aldaz said. "We played hard and we created some chances. At the end of the day, we just didn't score."
Next, the Mustangs travel to Memphis Oct. 15. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
