de Toledo Honored With Presidential Award of Excellence
DALLAS (SMU) – Sylvia de Toledo was honored with the SMU Presidential Award of Excellence – Scholar/Athlete Award, which is given to a student-athlete who has demonstrated outstanding ability in competition and in the classroom.
de Toledo, a finance major and economics minor, has maintained a 3.96 GPA in four years at SMU and is eligible to graduate in May with Summa Cum Laude honors. The New York, N.Y., native is a three-time National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) Academic All-America First Team honoree.
As a four-year starter for the equestrian team, de Toledo has earned five NCEA All-America honors. Along with an Equitation on the Flat honor in 2016, she earned her fourth consecutive Equitation Over Fences All-America nod for her performance in 2016-17. de Toledo finished her career with a program-best 70 career wins, and ranks second on the SMU All-Time Most Outstanding Player (MOP) list with 14.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a graduating senior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and an outstanding record on the field of play. SMU volleyball's Avery Acker won the award last year.
