Men's swimming wins big at TCU

Mustangs Defeat TCU On The Road, 184-114
FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team won 14 of 16 events to defeat TCU, 184-114, on the road Wednesday evening. With the victory, the Mustangs open the season 1-0 in dual action, while improving to 28-3-1 all-time against the Horned Frogs.
Eight different Mustangs won their respective events, with Jonathan Gomez leading the way with three wins. Classmate Bryce Klein swept diving with wins on the 1- and 3-meter boards, while Nick Badsky also picked up a pair of wins.
Gomez's first individual victory of the night came in the 200-yard butterfly (1:51.60), before going on to win the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.67) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:53.80) just two events later. Badsky posted wins in the 50-yard freestyle (21.50) and 100-yard butterfly (51.38).
Klein posted NCAA Zone qualifying scores on both boards, winning the 1 meter with 312.15 points and the 3 meter with 365.99. Both scores were well ahead of his competitors from TCU.
Lucas Schenke and Ralph Koo also led the Mustangs in freestyle events, each picking up wins. Schenke won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:47.60, while Koo took top honors in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.64. Schenke was also third in the 500-yard freestyle, and Koo was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle. Christian Scherubl was the highest finisher in the 200 distance at second.
In the backstroke discipline, Bartosz Krzyzaniak won the 100 distance (49.95) and placed second in the 200 (1:51.25), and Stephen Cheng won his first collegiate event with a 1:51.14 in the 200 back.
Ronen Faur rounded out the individual victories topping the field in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.12), and also added a second place finish in the 100 breast (57.72) to his night. Kianu Kitching was third in the 200 (2:07.69).
Garrett Carson scored for the Mustangs in butterfly events, touching second in the 200 and third in the 100.
SMU won both relays at the event, starting the evening with the 200-yard medley relay as Krzyzaniak, Faur, Gomez and Koo paced the field in 1:32.54. Krzyzaniak, Schenke, Badsky and Koo covered the distance in the 400-yard freestyle in 3:06.87 to close out the victory.
The Mustangs are back in action Friday, Nov. 3 when they host the facility-opener of the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
