SMU Defeats TCU 207-93
DALLAS (SMU)– The (RV) SMU men's swimming and diving team defeated Metroplex rival TCU, 207-93, Friday night at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
SMU opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with Cole Bruns, Lance Butler, Riley Hill and Justin Baker combining for a 1:26.00.
Colin Feehery, Sage Sungail and Jack Forrest claimed the top three spots in the 200 freestyle. Feehery became SMU's fastest all-time performer in the event with a time of 1:34.48 and earned an NCAA B Cut. Sungail swam a time of 1:36.27 and Forrest touched the wall at 1:38.83.
Feehery earned his second NCAA B Standard of the night in the 200 breast after touching the wall at 1:54.75. Angus Corbeau posted a career-best time of 1:56.21 for a runner-up finish and an NCAA B Mark.
Corbeau won the 200 IM and achieved his second B Standard of the night with a career-best time of 1:45.47. Feehery (1:47.46) and Cotton Fields (1:47.65) finished 2-3 in the race.
Dominic Hoefer took the top spot on 3 meter with a six-round NCAA Zone score of 350.93, on 1 meter, he claimed first place with a 315.68 Zone score. Teammate Peter Smithson posted a Zone-qualifying 337.58 to finish second on 3 meter.
Baker, Butler and Bruns claimed the top three spots in the 50 freestyle. Baker achieved an NCAA B Cut with a time of 19.82. Butler (19.85) was the runner-up and Bruns' 19.94 was good for a third place finish. Additionally, Butler and Bruns finished back-to-back in the 100 free. Butler (43.64) checked in second and Bruns touched the wall at 43.66.
Fields earned an NCAA B Standard in the 200 fly after swimming a 1:44.59. Ryan Peckham placed second (1:48.28) and Ryan Aroesty touched the wall at 1:48.54 to earn third place.
Fields earned his second B Standard of the night in the 200 backstroke (1:44.72). Tyler Barfield claimed third place with a time of 1:46.66.
In the 100 fly, Russell Exum covered the distance in 47.08 to earn an NCAA B Cut. Jack Easton swam a time of 48.43 in the same event.
Exum and Joshua Miller earned a 2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle. Exum touched the wall at 9:15.33 and Miller swam a career-best time of 9:24.90.
In the 500 freestyle, Sungail covered the distance in 4:25.73 to earn a runner-up finish and Davis Edwards time of 4:28.39 placed third.
Sungail, Hill, Evan McCormick and Feehery earned first place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 2:54.98 to close out the night for the Mustangs.
