Men’s Soccer Opens 2023 Season Ranked 19th In United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (United Soccer Coaches/SMU) – The SMU men's soccer team, under head coach Kevin Hudson, will open its 2023 season ranked No. 19 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, the association announced on Tuesday.

The Mustangs are one of three American Athletic Conference programs to open the season in the top-25, with Tulsa earning the No. 16 ranking and Florida International University coming in at No. 21. Two other teams — Saint Louis University and Denver — on SMU's slate were mentioned at No. 24 and received votes, respectively.

SMU has been ranked in the top 20 during all nine seasons under Coach Hudson.

The Mustangs' home opener will take place on Aug. 24 against UTRGV at Washburne Stadium. SMU closed its 2022 season with a 10-6-1 record and made the second round in the NCAA Tournament.

United Soccer Coaches college rankings, released every Tuesday during the regular season, are an indicator of the week-to-week status of qualified programs. To be eligible for consideration in United Soccer Coaches college rankings, a school must be a member of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program.

Probably not bad to start out behind Tulsa.
Motivating, if nothing else.
