Ruvalcaba Match-Winner, No. 10 SMU Shuts Out Central Arkansas

DALLAS (SMU) — No. 10 Mustangs shut out Central Arkansas to win their final non-conference match of the season, Tuesday.

The Mustangs took an early lead in the sixth minute and dominated the match to grab a 1-0 win over the Bears.

Cesar Ruvalcaba scored his first goal for SMU to win the match. Nikola Djordjevic served the match-winner with his third assist of the season.

The Mustangs closed this season's non-conference play undefeated with a 5-0-3 record.

How It Happened
SMU went straight on the front foot by dominating the ball as it was kicked off, and it did not take long for them to take the lead. Ruvalcaba found the opener in the sixth minute of the match.

The California native found the net with a strong shot from Djordjevic's cross that bounced off a UCA defender.

The goal was Ruvalcaba's first goal as a Mustang.

SMU remained on the initiative in the next 39 minutes of the half, but they could not find a breakthrough. The first half ended with a 1-0 scoreline for the Mustangs.

The second half started, and the Mustangs resumed their charge.

The Mustangs' biggest goal opportunity came from Djordjevic's shot hitting the crossbar. Enzo Panozzo was there for a rebound header, but UCA's goalkeeper, Javier Ramirez, was able to make a save.

SMU created multiple clear-cut opportunities, recording 15 shots in the second half, six of which were on goal, but the Bears' goalkeeper was equal to the task.

Martin Dominguez made some brilliant saves to close out the match. He made two crucial saves in the final stretch to seal the Mustangs' 1-0 win at full-time.
