No. 10 Mustangs Fall At No. 23 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. (SMU) — No. 10 SMU Men's Soccer fell 5-1 to 23rd-ranked NC State on Saturday.
The Mustangs are now 2-2-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play with eight points after six conference matches.

Kyran Chambron Pinho found the goal net for the fourth time this season. Nikola Djordjevic served the goal with his fourth assist of the season.

How It Happened
In a chaotic start with balanced ball possession, NC State was first to find the goal net. They opened the scoreline with a header in the sixth minute.

The hosts extended their lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute. Martin Dominguez saved the initial shot, and Lamar Bynum followed it up to block the rebound shot, but Donavan Philip found the net with the second rebound. They made it 3-0 with another goal in the 25th minute.

Chambron Pinho reduced the deficit to 3-1 in the 28th minute. Djordjevic fed the left-back on his run down the left wing, and Chambron Pinho squeaked the ball between his defender’s legs and into the goal.

NC State made it 4-1 with another goal in the 35th minute, and the hosts ended the first half with a three-goal lead.

The second half saw sporadic goal chances for both teams. SMU outshot NC State seven to four in the second half but failed to find the back of the net.

The hosts scored a goal in the 82nd minute to win the match 5-1.

Other Notes
SMU continues its scoring streak, having scored one or more goals in 34 consecutive matches.

Chambron Pinho had made six goal contributions this season (four goals and two assists).

The Mustangs are 2-2-3 against top 25 sides this season.

SMU will host Wake Forest for their final home regular season match on Senior Night at Washburne Stadium, Oct. 25.
