Fifth-Ranked SMU Drops Contest With No. 4 Oklahoma State, 13-5

STILLWATER, Okla. (SMU) – The fifth ranked SMU equestrian team fell to No. 4 Oklahoma State, 13-5, on Friday afternoon at Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center.

With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 3-4 at the conclusion of their fall slate. The Cowgirls improved to 4-2 on the season.

SMU dropped Fences 4-1 at the start of the meet, but claimed the first three Horsemanship points to cut the lead to two at the conclusion of the first half.

The Cowgirls dominated the second half, taking a 3-1 win in Reining and a 4-0 victory on the Flat to secure their meet victory.

Fences saw the Mustangs' Elli Yeager pick up an 84-82 victory to open the meet, however OSU would proceed to claim the next four points of the event to open up a 4-1 lead. Yeager's victory marked her third consecutive win in the event and fourth of the season.

SMU gained ground in Horsemanship, winning the first three points of the event en route to an eventual 3-2 advantage. Alexa Black opened things up with a narrow 75-73 victory, while Nya Kearns and Jayna Lagace followed with 77.75-76.25 and 76.5-74 wins to clinch the event.

Kearns improved her record this season to 7-0 and upped her program record to 53 career wins. The graduate student also picked up the MOP for the event, bumping her SMU record to 28. Black and Lagace both improved to 5-1-1 for the campaign.

In the second half, Chalyce Head recorded the Mustangs' lone victory in Reining with a 69.75, while Addi Schmersal scored a 70.75 to draw a point. Head improved her record to 6-0-1 on the season with the victory.

OSU won four points over SMU on the Flat to conclude the meet. Katelyn VanDenburg scored an 82.5 to push the point.

SMU enjoys a two-and-a-half-month hiatus before resuming in 2025 with consecutive home meets on January 31 and February 1 against South Dakota State and No. 2 Texas A&M.
