Two Mustangs Tabbed AVCA All-Americans

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU volleyball opposite hitter Naya Shime has been named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Third Team All-American, and setter Celia Cullen earned All-American Honorable Mention honor on Wednesday.

Shime is the first player in program history to make an AVCA All-America Team. The eight other players recognized by the association in the postseason have all been honorable mention selections.

Naya Shime, a graduate opposite hitter, was named an AVCA Southwest All-Region performer and an All-ACC First Team selection. Shime registered a team-leading 3.44 kills per set on .283 hitting and added 1.72 digs per set and 1.02 blocks per set. The Casper, Wyoming native collected double-digit kills in 25 of the Mustangs' 33 matches this season. During her two seasons at SMU, Shime played 229 sets in 65 matches, collecting 696 kills, 413 digs, and 201 total blocks.

Celia Cullen, Gr., Setter, Honorable Mention All-American
Graduate setter Celia Cullen was named to the AVCA Southwest All-Region Team, earning all-region and all-conference first-team honors for the second straight season, earning ACC First-Team recognition earlier this season. Cullen put up 9.97 assists per set and 1.87 digs per set, ranking in the top 5 in the ACC in both assists per set and total assists. The setter finished the season with ten matches of 40 or more assists. A native of Brighton, Michigan, Cullen earned two ACC Setter of the Week honors and paced the Mustang offense that ranked in the top 20 nationally in hitting percentage (.267).
