SMU Sweeps Home Doubleheader Against Abilene Christian and Midwestern State

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU Men's Tennis swept its second doubleheader at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex with wins over Abilene Christian and Midwestern State on Saturday.

SMU won the first match against Abilene Christian 6-1 before defeating Midwestern State 5-2 in the afternoon.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 5-0 to start the season.

How it Went
The Mustangs dropped the day's first point as ACU's first and second doubles pairs defeated SMU's pairs of Jerry Barton/Maks Silagy and Ofek Shimanov/Xavier Calvelo.

SMU then came back to win all singles matches, with Noah McDonald opening the scoring with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alejandro Verdasco, followed by Barton with a win over Dennis Dutine (6-2, 6-3).

Ofek Shimanov earned SMU's third point with a win over Daniel Morozov (6-3, 6-4) and Georgi Georgiev clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Martin Delindo. Louis Cloud and Silagy completed the singles sweep by winning their matches.

SMU kept the momentum going by winning the doubles point against Midwestern State. The Mustangs' pair of Noah McDonald and Hughes Peus won the first doubles of the afternoon before Barton and Calvelo clinched the point with a 7-5 win.

Cloud was the first to add to the score in singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bruno Sanchez. The Mustangs dropped a match, but McDonald took back the point with a win over Stephen Slocombe (6-3, 6-2) to make it 3-1.

Georgiev clinched the match with a service ace to defeat Filip Vacula (6-2, 7-5).
