Mustangs drop thriller in Madison

MADISON, Wisc. (SMU) – SMU Men's tennis dropped a nailbiter to Wisconsin (5-2) at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Friday.

Wisconsin took the first point for the day in doubles after all matches went to seven-game sets.

The Badgers took the first singles match, but SMU tied the tally with two singles wins from Jerry Barton and Noah McDonald.

The hosts clinched the match by winning two singles matches following McDonald's win.

How it Went
The Mustangs and Badgers went on a close doubles battle, with all matches heading into seventh-set tiebreakers.

SMU's Trevor Svajda and Louis Cloud dropped the first doubles match (7-6), but Georgi Georgiev and Vikas Deo evened the score by winning their doubles match (7-6).

The Mustangs dropped the doubles point as Jerry Barton and Maks Silagy fell short of defeating Patrik Meszaros and Michael Minasyan.

In singles, Wisconsin's Michael Minasyan defeated Svajda (6-2, 6-3) to extend the hosts' lead.

Barton won SMU's first point in the third line with a win over Matthew Fullerton—not dropping a game in the second set (6-2, 6-0).

McDonald tied the match with the Mustangs' second win of the day over Sachiv Kumar (6-3, 6-4).

The hosts clinched the win with singles wins in the second and fifth lines.

PonyPride - For those of us who are not familiar with the names of our minor sport players, it would be helpful to identify the individual players e.g., Smith (SMU)
