Mustangs collect 2 dominant wins over Lamar, UT-Arlington

DALLAS, (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team earned two dominant wins over Lamar, 7-0, and UT Arlington, 4-0, at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Thursday morning, improving their spring season record to 3-3.

SMU VS. LAMAR
The Mustangs claimed the doubles point convincingly. Arianna Stavropoulos and Millie Skelton set the tone with a 6-0 victory on court three, followed by Sophie Llewellyn and Ellie Pittman, who sealed the point with a 6-1 win on court two. June Bjork and Caroline McGinley led 4-1 on court one before the doubles point was secured.

SMU carried the momentum into singles play, where they swept all six matches in straight sets. Millie Skelton put the Mustangs up 2-0 with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 6 spot. Arianna Stavropoulos quickly followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court four. Drew Morris clinched the match for SMU, dropping just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

The Mustangs continued to add to their total, with Sophie Llewellyn (6-2, 6-1), Ellie Pittman (6-0, 6-4), and June Bjork (6-3, 6-4) all securing straight-set wins to complete the sweep.

SMU VS. UT ARLINGTON
The Mustangs entered doubles and singles portions of the match with a one-point advantage due to a forfeit by UT Arlington. Drew Morris and Arianna Stavropoulos secured the doubles point for the Mustangs, winning on court two, 6-3, over Ioana Dumitrescu and Ana Paula Jimenez. The win gave the duos their fourth win of the spring.

SMU and UT Arlington then moved on to singles play, where SMU got the two points they needed to win the match 4-0. June Bjork was the first Mustang to claim victory in singles action, winning on court four in dominant fashion, 6-1, 6-0. Bjork earned her second singles win of the day and improved to 4-2 in the spring season.

Ellie Pittman clinched the match for the Mustangs, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Mialy Ranaivo. Pittman, who had been playing on court two singles until today's doubleheader, saw action for the first time on court one in both matches on Thursday and secured two victories.
