Women's tennis swept by No. 19 N.C. State

Mustangs fall to No. 19 NC State

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team suffered their first home loss of the spring on Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 19 NC State (3-3) on Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex 4-0.

"The score doesn't indicate how close this match was at times. We got ourselves into some good positions in doubles and on multiple courts in singles. We have to commit when it matters. This group will continue the hard work they've been doing."

The match started with three tightly contested doubles matches. SMU secured the first win of the day with Drew Morris and Arianna Stavropoulos taking down No. 60 Jasmine Conway/Kristina Paskauskas 7-5. However, NC State secured the doubles point with wins on the other two courts, 7-5 and 7-6 (7-5).

In singles action, NC State started strong, taking all six opening sets. SMU regrouped, to show some fight in each of the second sets but ultimately fell 4-0. The first win for NC State in singles came on court two, where Maddy Zampardo took down Ellie Pittman 6-3, 6-3. Shortly after, Anna Zyryanova took down Sophie Llewellyn, who made her first appearance on court one, 6-4, 6-3. The match was clinched on court four where Arianna Stavropoulos fell to Gabriella Broadfoot 7-5, 6-4.

After falling 6-1 in the opening set, Millie Skelton gave the Mustangs their lone set win, taking the second set on court six over Jasmine Conway 6-4 before the singles match was deemed unfinished.
