Men's tennis downs Florida in 4-3 thriller

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU Men's Tennis defeated Florida 4-3 at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Friday.

The Mustangs took the doubles point to get the head start, and while the Gators were able to even score in singles, two wins from Ofek Shimanov and Jerry Barton in the final stretch sealed the match for SMU.

With the win, SMU will enter next week's ITA National Indoor Championship with a 7-3 record.

How it Went
Three close doubles matches unfolded from the first serve. SMU's pair of Georgi Georgiev and Maks Silagy dropped the day's first match to Florida's Tanapatt Nirundorn / Adhithya Ganesan (6-3).

Trevor Svajda and Louis Cloud evened the score with a 6-3 win over Henry Jefferson and Jeremy Jin and the Mustangs clinched the doubles point with a win by Barton and Shimanov. Barton hit a service ace to clinch the point in a tiebreaker (7-6(2)).

Georgiev rode the momentum and grabbed the first singles point for SMU with a win over Kevin Edengren (6-4, 6-2).

The Gators evened the scoreline with wins from Nirundorn and Ganesan, but the Mustangs pulled away to win the match in the final stretch.

Shimanov and Barton, again, prove their worth in crunch time by winning the two final match-clinching points. Shimanov won SMU's third point with a win over Henry Jefferson (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) and Barton clinched the match by defeating No. 54 Jeremy Jin (6-2, 3-6, 6-1).
