SMU men’s soccer announces 5 new spring signees
DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Soccer announced the addition of five new Mustangs to the 2025 roster on Thursday.
"We are thrilled to add this talented group of transfers to our 2025 roster. Each has made an immediate impact already, and we expect them to contribute significantly this fall," said Head Coach Kevin Hudson.
"A special note of thanks goes out to assistant coaches King, Ibarra and Fitzpatrick for delivering this outstanding transfer class."
The five new Mustangs will provide strength at goal and in all thirds of the field.
Charles-Emile Brunet – Midfielder, Freshman | Montreal, Canada/Central Arkansas
Brunet is a freshman from Central Arkansas. He will fortify the Mustangs' midfield and provide an attacking threat.
The Montreal, Canada, native played in all 17 matches with 14 starts for the Bears as a freshman last season. Brunet scored two goals and made two assists to earn the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team honors. He scored a goal in the ASUN Conference Championship semifinal match to help Central Arkansas make the tournament championship.
Mukisa Emmanuel – Forward, Sophomore | Mbale, Uganda/Eastern Florida State College
Emmanuel came to the Hilltop after transferring from Eastern Florida State College. The forward scored 17 goals and made 15 assists through 35 appearances in his two years at EFSC.
The Mbale, Uganda, native led the Titans' attacking line with 10 goals and six assists last season. He made 19 appearances with 16 starts to help take Eastern Florida State College to the 2024 NJCAA Championship semifinals.
Villads Landsperg – Defender, Sophomore | Copenhagen, Denmark/Wofford
Landsperg hails from Copenhagen, Denmark, to fortify the Mustangs' defense. He transferred from Wofford, where he made 31 appearances during his two-year tenure.
The 6'2" center-back played all 17 matches for the Terriers last season, where they posted six clean sheets and made the Southern Conference Tournament semifinals. On top of his defensive duties, Landsperg's offensive game saw two assists and one goal in 2024.
Soren Russell – Goalkeeper, Junior | Bellevue, Wash./University of Colorado Colorado Springs
Russell joined SMU after being named the 2024 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. The Bellevue, Washington, native spent two years at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, where he earned 13 wins and posted 140 saves through 39 starts.
The 6'4" goalkeeper was the Mountain Lions' primary goalkeeper in their second straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearance last season. Along with the NCAA Tournament appearance, he was named D2CCA All-South Central Region Second Team, RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year and All-RMAC First Team. Before UCCS, Russell started 19 games in net for a total of 1626 minutes at Wabash College in 2022 to be named to the NCAC All-Tournament Team and All-NCAC Third Team
Slade Starnes – Defender, Junior | Dallas, Texas/Furman
Dallas-native Starnes returned to his hometown and is set to fortify the Mustangs' back line after transferring from Furman. The 2024 First Team All-Southern Conference and 2022 Southern Conference All-Freshman honoree came with experience to the Hilltop after three years in Furman.
Starnes earned 43 starts in his time at Furman, contributing to 17 clean sheets. The 6'3" center-back tied for the most assists for the team (4) as he captained Furman to the 2024 Southern Conference Tournament championship and the second round of the 2024 NCAA Championship. Prior to Furman, Starnes captained the FC Dallas U19 academy.
