Men's tennis drops 4-3 nailbiter to No. 20 Michigan

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU men's tennis fell to seventh-seeded Michigan in a 4-3 battle to close its ITA National Indoor Championship at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday.

SMU took the first point of the evening by winning the first and second lines of doubles, but the Mustangs fell short in a battle against the 20th-ranked Wolverines, which saw through all six singles matches. The Mustangs grabbed singles wins from Georgi Georgiev and Louis Cloud.

Georgiev grabbed his second consecutive win over a ranked opponent by defeating No. 117 Patorn Hanchaikul. He defeated Kentucky's No. 69 Charlelie Cosnet on Saturday and now leads SMU with two wins over ranked opponents.

How it Went
SMU's pair of Maks Silagy and Georgiev grabbed the first win of the evening over Will Cooksey and Benjamin Kittay (6-3).

Vikas Deo and Xavier Calvelo clinched the doubles point for the Mustangs with a 6-4 win over Alex Cairo and Patorn Hanchaikul.

The Wolverines tied the score with a win from Alex Cairo, but Georgiev quickly took back the lead for the Mustangs with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over No. 117 Patorn Hanchaikul.

Cloud extended SMU's lead to 3-1 by defeating Nicholas Steiglehner (6-3, 6-2), but Michigan evened the score again with wins from Will Cooksey and Bjorn Swenson.

No. 67 Benjamin Kittay defeated No. 70 Trevor Svajda to win the match decider on court one (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
