Fourth-ranked Mustangs top No. 3 Oklahoma State, extend nation-leading win streak to 6

DALLAS (SMU) – The fourth-ranked SMU equestrian team lengthened its nation-leading win streak to six with a 14-5 victory against No. 3 Oklahoma State on Saturday at Dallas Equestrian Center.

The victory also extended the Mustangs' home winning streak to 18, the second longest in the country.

SMU (9-4) opened the meet with dominating results in both Fences and Horsemanship, taking a 7-2 advantage at the half. The success continued in the second, with the Mustangs taking both Flat and Reining to close out the meet against the Cowgirls (6-4, 2-2 Big 12).

Picking up MOPs in Jumping Seat events were Aedan Mooney (Fences) and Augusta Iwasaki (Flat). On the Western end, Nya Kearns (Horsemanship) and Shelby Clausen (Reining) earned the accolades.

The Mustangs opened up with a stellar performance in Fences, taking four points to gain momentum early in the meet. Mooney, Elli Yeager, Katie Kiely and Iwasaki all recorded victories for SMU in the opening event. With a season-best score of 87, Mooney claimed MOP accolades for the first time of her career.

SMU continued its hot start in Horsemanship, picking up a 3-1 result. Ava Blyth, Kearns and Alexa Black were the point scorers for the Ponies in the event, with Kearns' win improving her to an unblemished 13-0 on the season. For a team-leading eighth time this season, Kearns picked up MOP accolades after scoring a 77.25.

The second half saw more strong results for the Ponies, beginning on the Flat. SMU claimed the first four victories of the event, with Mooney, Iwasaki, Elli Yeager and Katie Kiely picking up victories for the Mustangs. For the second time this season, Iwasaki earned MOP accolades in the event.

To close out the dominating performance, SMU took three points in Reining. The wins were taken by Maria Richards, Chalyce Head and Clausen. Earning her first MOP of the season was Clausen, who scored a 73.75.

STREAKING STANGS: With the win on Saturday afternoon, SMU extended its home win streak to 18 meets and has won six straight meets. The 18 home victories in the second longest in the nation, while the six straight victories is the longest active streak in the NCEA. The Mustangs are 6-0 at home this season, winning by a combined score of 86-27.

UNBEATEN NYA: Graduate student Nya Kearns improved her record to a perfect 13-0 on the season, the only Mustang still with an unbeaten record this season.

FAST START: SMU has led at the half of each of its meets during the spring season and is unbeaten (6-0) during the second half of the regular season.

UP NEXT: The Mustangs close out the regular season on Friday, March 7, with a home meet against top-ranked Auburn. The action is set to begin at 10 a.m. at Dallas Equestrian Center.
