Mustangs drop thriller to Georgia Tech
DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis fell 4-3 in a hard-fought ACC Home Opener match against Georgia Tech at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Friday.
The Mustangs took the head start by winning the doubles and the first singles point but fell short in the final stretch of the match.
Sophomore Trevor Svajda grabbed two ranked wins. He and Louis Cloud defeated No. 24 Nate Bonetto / Gianluca Carlini in doubles before winning his singles match against No. 120 Nate Bonetto (6-1, 6-2).
How it Went
SMU was off to a fast start as Georgi Georgiev and Ofek Shimanov won the first doubles match of the day over Krish Arora and Christophe Clement (6-4). Svajda and Cloud clinched the doubles point for the Mustangs with a 7-6(2) win over No. 24 Nate Bonetto / Gianluca Carlini.
Svajda stayed hot by winning his singles match 6-1, 6-2 over No. 120 Nate Bonetto to extend the Mustangs' lead to 2-0.
Georgia Tech's Krish Arora won his match (6-3, 6-3) to take a point back for the visitors, but Cloud responded with a 6-3, 6-3 win of his own against Richard Biagiotti to make it a match point for the Mustangs.
The visitors cut their deficit to 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court two before tying the match with a win on court four (1-6, 6-3, 6-2).
Noah McDonald fought hard in the three-set deciding match but fell 7-5, 1-6, 4-6.
