WACO, Texas (NCEA/SMU) – SMU graduate student Nya Kearns has been tabbed as the Arion Sellier Horsemanship Rider of the Month for February, the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) announced on Wednesday afternoon.
This is the second monthly honor Kearns has collected this season, previously winning the award in October. She continued her very successful season during the month of February, going 4-0 and picking up two MOPs.
In the February opener against No. 2 Texas A&M, Kearns garnered a score of 75.5 to get a narrow win and earn MOP honors. She continued her success against No. 3 Georgia, scoring a 79.5 to get the win and earn the MOP once again, her seventh of the season.
The success continued with two meets in Martin, with Kearns posting two wins during SMU's victories over Delaware State and No. 9 UT-Martin to close out February.
On the season so far, the Grayslake, Illinois, native is 13-0 with eight MOPs. Her 13 wins is just one off of her single season record for Horsemanship wins. Kearns has also added to her school records in career wins and MOPs.
No. 2 SMU is set for its regular season finale on Friday against top-ranked Auburn. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. at Dallas Equestrian Center.
