Mustangs finalize 2025 roster with 6 transfers
DALLAS (SMU) - Head Coach Sam Erger and the SMU volleyball staff have announced the addition of six transfers to the 2025 roster.
SMU volleyball has secured the signatures of setter Averi Carlson (Lucas, Texas), middle blocker Favor Anyanwu (Rowlett, Texas), outside hitter Jadyn Livings (Dallas, Texas), outside hitter Madison Scheer (Eureka, Mo.), outside hitter Malaya Jones (Santa Ana, Calif.), and Defensive Specialist/Libero Jordyn Schilling (Sacramento, Calif.).
All six of the incoming transfers will enroll in January. The group adds to a roster with four returners and six high school signees.
Averi Carlson, Sr., Setter, Lucas, Texas (Texas Transfer)
• Transferring after two seasons at Baylor, followed by one year, most recently at Texas
• Played in 93 sets and 25 matches in her lone season with the Longhorns in 2024
• Totaled 787 assists, averaging 8.46 assists per set
• Logged a season-high 58 assists and 15 digs vs. Ole Miss
• Weapon behind the service line with 0.22 aces per set, totaling 20 service aces
• Had seven matches with 40+ assists
• Named AVCA All-Southwest Region First Team, All-Big 12 Second Team, Academic All-Big-12 First Team, and CSC Academic All-District in her sophomore season in Waco
• In her first collegiate season, Carlson was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, AVCA Southwest Region Freshman of the Year, AVCA All-Southwest Region Honorable Mention, All-Big 12 First Team, and All-Big 12 Freshman Team
• Named Big 12 Rookie of the Week five times (Aug 30, Sept 13, Oct 25, Nov 8, Nov 29, 2022)
• Voted Preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year entering her first season with Baylor

Favor Anyanwu, So., Middle Blocker, Rowlett, Texas (USC Transfer)
• Transferring to SMU after one season at USC, where she played in 24 matches
• Collected 133 kills and 85 blocks in her freshman season with the Trojans
• Tallied a season-high 11 kills and 13 pts. vs. Pepperdine, and a season-high nine blocks vs. K-State
• Played high school ball at Sachse, where she holds the records for career blocks (454), blocks in a season (167), single season hitting percentage (.507), and kills in a match (37 in four sets)
• The No. 2-ranked VolleyballMag.com Fab 50 selection, and Under Armour All-American, Texas District 9-6A Offensive Player of the Year, Dallas Star News First Team and Middle Blocker of the Year, Dallas Morning News All-Area Third Team, Texas Girls' Coaches Association All-Star Team and All-State Team, and Texas Sportswriters First-Team All-State Middle Blocker.

Madison Scheer, Sr., Outside Hitter, Eureka, Mo., (Auburn Transfer)
• Started in all 27 matches for the Tigers last season
• Tallied a season-high 18 kills on three different occasions throughout the season
• Eclipsed the double-digit kills mark 23 times
• Collected a career-high three aces against Florida (11/20)
• Recorded a career-best seven blocks in a win over No. 15 Florida State (9/8)
• Stacked up a career-high six digs four different times throughout 2024
• Became the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills and the fastest player to do so in the rally-scoring era
• Ended the season with single-season career highs in kills per set (3.46), service aces (10), digs per set (0.73), blocks (67), blocks per set (0.66) and points per set (3.93)
• Named AVCA All-South Region in 2023 and AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct 10, 2023

• Started in all 31 matches for the Rams last season, playing in all 121 sets
• Averaged 4.69 kills per set, ranking 13th in the nation and first in the Mountain West
• Finished the season with 640 points, 7th in the nation, averaging 5.29 points per set, which ranked 13th in the country
• Total 567 kills and 268 digs last season at Colorado State while hitting .311, a career-best in all three categories
• Her 567 kills were the fifth most in the NCAA
• Shatter her own single-season kills record at Colorado State by more than 100 kills
• Broke Colorado State's four-set single-match record for kills at 31 on .509 hitting with a season-high 15 digs against Boise State on Nov 9
