Volleyball unveils 2025 non-conference schedule

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU volleyball program unveiled its non-conference schedule for the 2025 season on Thursday.

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Sam Erger, SMU hosts four non-conference foes at Moody Coliseum in 2025. However, the Mustangs' regular season begins on the road on Friday, Aug. 29, against LSU, followed by a Saturday meeting with Baylor, also in Louisiana.

SMU will then play four non-conference home matches, starting with Washington on Thursday, Sept. 4, Northern Iowa on Friday, Sept. 5, Stony Brook on Saturday, Sept. 6, and then a matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 9, with the opponent to be announced at a later date.

The Mustangs then travel to Lexington for two matches in Kentucky, the first against the host Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 13, followed by a matchup with Purdue on Sunday, Sept. 14.

SMU's final two non-conference matches will be in Nacogdoches, Texas, on Sept. 18 and 19, when it will take on Stephen F. Austin and UTEP.

In Erger's third year as head coach, the Mustangs finished 25-8 in the 2024 season and were ranked as high as 10 in the AVCA Poll. The campaign was highlighted by wins over No. 1 Pitt and No. 2 Nebraska at Moody Coliseum and being selected as a national seed and host site in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

In the transfer portal, SMU signed six impact players in Malaya Jones (6-0, Opp., El Dorado Hills, Calif./Santa Margarita HS/Colorado State), Averi Carlson (5-11, S, Lucas, Texas/Lovejoy HS/Texas), Jordyn Schilling (5-11, L, Newport Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS/High Point), Madison Scheer (6-1, OH, Eureka, Mo./Eureka HS/Auburn), Favor Anyanwu (6-2, MB, Rowlett, Texas/Sachse HS/USC), and Jadyn Livings (6-1, Opp./OH, The Colony, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy/USC).

The Mustangs also added six freshmen, Sarah Frazee, Kennedi Rogers, Amelia Hansen, Brooke Gilmour, Hannah Beauford and Maggie Croft, to the roster, capped off by four returners from the 2024 team.
