Story LinksDALLAS (SMU) – SMU Women's Swimming and Diving announced the hiring of SMU alum Alice McCall as Associate Head Coach on Thursday.
"We're thrilled to welcome Alice McCall as the new associate head coach for our women's swimming team," said Head Coach Ozzie Quevedo.
"Alice brings an exceptional ability to recruit top-tier Division 1 student-athletes, having demonstrated a unique understanding of the evolving landscape of college athletics today. With her strategic vision and innovative approach, she knows how to identify and attract talent that aligns with our program's values and goals."
McCall joined the Mustangs after serving four years at TCU Swimming and Diving. She spent two years as the Horned Frogs' assistant coach before getting promoted to associate head coach in 2023.
Prior to her time in Fort Worth, Texas, McCall spent five years at Florida Atlantic University Swimming and Diving as an assistant coach, where she was the lead recruiter for FAU's men's team. She recruited three athletes who broke school records in their first appearances for FAU in the past two years.
The Wigan, England, native started her coaching career in 2014 at Toledo as an assistant coach for two seasons, leading the Rockets' mid-distance and distance groups.
"Alice's commitment to connecting with athletes on a personal level, combined with her passion for individual development, makes her the ideal fit for our coaching staff," said Quevedo.
"I have no doubt that she will be a driving force in our team's continued success, helping to shape not only outstanding swimmers but also well-rounded individuals ready to excel in their academic and athletic pursuits."
Before coaching, McCall was a four-year standout on the SMU Women's Swimming and Diving Team (2011-2014). She is a three-time Conference USA Champion specializing in distance freestyle.
In her first year at SMU, she won gold medals in the 800 free relay and 1650 free, along with a bronze medal in the 200 free and runner-up honors in the 500 free. She was a member of the C-USA championship-winning 800 free relay team as a junior. In addition to great athletic results, McCall also earned Scholar Baller Honors for showing progression in academics over the course of her four years at SMU.
McCall is still currently the 10th-fastest Mustang to swim the 1650 free in program history.
In England, McCall was a senior swimmer and international representative for her hometown squad. She was a nationally-ranked junior, having first represented Great Britain as a 16-year-old.
She was a member of the Great Britain Open Water squad in a number of international competitions, including the World Aquatics World Cup series, European Cup series, and European Junior Championships, gaining numerous top-5 and top-10 finishes. She was also a 2007 World Championships qualifier.
