The message from Turner on Nov 11th was “ undergraduate applications to the University have increased more than 40% year over year.” This is presumably for Fall 2025. This may also be partially due to waiving the application fee.

That would be a significant increase if so.

Interesting since the 2025-2026 application timeline is still ongoing. I guess that was a snapshot in time.

Will coincide with the end of the strategic plan, 2016-2025, and the campaign has so far raised $1.3 billion out of $1.5 billion, just three years into the campaign, I can see the Board voting to raise the target/goal to $2 billion

Dear Mustang Nation:

As you are no doubt aware, SMU has galloped into the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with energy and strength. Your Mustang football program – the only undefeated team in conference play - is now ranked number 1 in the ACC. This success is due to the diligent efforts of the team and coaches, and to the unwavering support of all Mustangs, over an extended period of time.

Just last Saturday a glowing article appeared in the Dallas Morning News, celebrating our success in the ACC. I’m sharing this with you so you can have pride in your university’s continued success on the national stage. You should know, at the same time our visibility increased dramatically through our ACC transition, undergraduate applications to the University have increased more than 40% year over year! This is just the latest validation of our strategy to seek membership in a power conference. Nearly every area of the University will benefit from our membership in the ACC – academics, student life, fundraising, faculty research, student recruitment, and reputation and rankings.

At this time, it’s important for all of us continue to support the Mustangs: buy tickets, attend events, support the Department of Athletics financially, and, importantly, financially support SMU’s NIL partner the Boulevard Collective. Click on the links provided to be a part of the momentum.

While every week’s competition is challenging, and nothing is assured, I am very optimistic about the future of SMU Athletics and the long-term success of our student-athletes. Thank you for your role in our joint success.

Yes, I believe it's a snapshot in time. Maybe through Nov. 1 early application deadline? Although the publicity could be driving regular admission apps up even higher. Based on history, TCU proves that a lot of these extra apps are not of the highest academic caliber but it's great to have them show interest and be admitted (if capable enough). The trick is then to convert them amongst their various options.

True - "Based on history, TCU proves that a lot of these extra apps are not of the highest academic caliber"

Which is okay, it will allow SMU to have a lower admit rate.

False - "Our Mustang football program – the only undefeated team in conference play" - Oregon is undefeated.

I believe RGT is focused on the ACC vs. other conferences, like the MWC as well.
