Two Ministers Who Supported SMU Pass On

The Rev. William T. 'Bill' Stephenson, who could often be seen at SMU football and basketball games, passed away on July 1 after a long battle with cancer. He held staff positions at several area Methodist churches, most recently at Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at HPUMC in Dallas.

The Rev. Ben Oliphint - a former SMU trustee - and former senior pastor at First United Methodist Church, Dallas and later elected bishop of the denomination passed away last Saturday in Houston. Rev. Oliphint had been in the hospital since suffering a heart attack last month. A memorial service was held in Houston earlier this week. Rev. Oliphint often attended SMU football and basketball games when he lived in Dallas and encouraged the area MYF groups to attend the games, too.
