SMU Hires New Police Chief

SMU has named Richard A. Shafer, a veteran university police officer and former military police chief in the Middle East and Europe, as the University’s top police officer. Shafer had served as SMU’s acting police chief since March. Since that time, he has focused on updating departmental policies and creating an enhanced campus emergency preparedness unit.

Shafer brings more than 13 years of university police leadership experience to his new position, including at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and at SMU, where he has been since 1999. He served for 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of major.

Plot Summary: "3:10 to Yuma" stars Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Ben Foster, Gretchen Mol and Peter Fonda in a modern take on the classic western by Elmore Leonard from producing/writing/directing team Cathy Konrad and James Mangold ("Walk the Line").

In Arizona in the late 1800's, infamous outlaw Ben Wade (Crowe) and his vicious gang of thieves and murderers have plagued the Southern Railroad.
