SANDERS, JR. M.D., WILFORD MONROE (SANDY) Born 11/27/1923, died 5/18/2008. Survived by his bride of more than 30 years, Merry Dickerson Sanders, daughters Susan Leigh Sanders Wansbrough and husband Dr. Scott R. Wansbrough, Dana Hart Sanders, son Todd Christian Sanders, Judith Elaine Finn and husband Dr. Richard Finn, Marilyn Harrington, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son, Wilford Monroe (Buddy) Sanders, III, and grandson, Wilford Monroe (Sonny) Sanders, IV. Born to Wilford M. Sanders, Sr. and Edna Marie Walter Sanders, Sandy grew up in Groesbeck, Texas, where he was valedictorian of his high school class and a proud member of the Goat Marching Band. Following his graduation with honors from SMU, where he played trumpet in the Mustang Band and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, he attended Southwestern Medical School, graduating in 1947. He did a surgery residency at the University of Dayton, then served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. After completing a urology residency at the University of Iowa, he opened his medical practice in Dallas and was affiliated with St. Paul Hospital, where he later became chief of the urology service. Sandy was an avid fisherman, master grower of jalapeno and habanero peppers (which he ate raw), chili chef, crossword puzzle solver, photographer, and student of history. He greatly enjoyed regular lunches with his fraternity brothers. More than all that, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Services will be Thursday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Groesbeck, Texas (203 W. State Street), where he was baptized as a child. Burial will follow in the Sanders family plot at Fort Parker Memorial Park, in Groesbeck. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Thursday at Groesbeck Funeral Home, 1215 E. Yeagua, Groesbeck, Texas.

Very, very sad. He sounds like he had great taste in music.

My prayers and condolences to his family.
