University of Texas launches e-textbook trial

Students under UT's plan, though, download digital textbooks to their hard drives. About 1,000 students will participate in the trial in the next academic year

Yes, but they aren't used to textbooks, so maybe not...

How will their football and basketball players color them in?

I'll admit I thought this thread was about something else when I saw "University of Texas" and "trial" in the same phrase

I LOVELOVELOVE the few textbooks I can get digitally. It is cheaper, more convenient, cheaper, greener, cheaper, and cheaper.

I'm sure there are other subject that are the same way, but I've had multiple engineering books in the $400 range. That's ridiculous!

Michael Granof - an accounting teacher in the MBA program (and faculty chair or the UT co-op) - was published in the NYT last summer suggesting this. It REALLY makes sense when you think through it. The used textbook market will get crushed but in the end, students and professors/authors win. Link below:

The MBA program at Tulsa gives you the option of using online text books. I have only tried it for my accounting class which was interesting, but I really wish the law school would try it out.
