Best Pro athlete from SMUWho was the best Pro Athlete from SMU history
i think Q,he was only one i saw playing Mustang from India
Eric Dickerson
Don Meredith Michael Carter Jerry Ball Raymond Berry Forrest Gregg Doak Walker Craig James was a RB on a super bowl team, which I think trumps the clippers & grizzlies Dale Hellestrae Wes Hopkins we have all these to start with, and you go w/ Quinton Ross?
Pretty hard to go against Dickerson considering he holds the season rushing record in the NFL.
Forrest Gregg was a great one. Don Meredith is up there. Koncak probably made the most money regardless of where he ranks in "greatness". Craig James got a Super Bowl ring which would put him probably in the top 10. Doak Walker continued to play well. But I still have to go with Dickerson. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
I don't think he eclipses Dickerson, but Kyle Rote is the #2 guy in my opinion:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/p ... teKy00.htm 1st pick in the draft, 11 years with the Giants, 4 trips to the Pro-Bowl, and an NFL Championship. Plus one of the coolest names ever for a white boy. -CoS
Don't forget William Payne Stewart two time U.S. Open Champion!
RIP Payne! SMU - IT'S YOUR TURN

Dickerson by far-folks- records in the NFL don't last 30 years-and Dickerson Single Season Rushing Record hasn't yet been seriously challenged. Nobody has gotten within 150 yards of his record setting Rookie Season either. In his prime he was better than anyone who has ever played the Game. In fact Dickerson still holds 4 NFL Records 30 years later and is ranked among the Top 5 or so in about 11 categories-30 years later. The only one who kept Dickerson from breaking every NCAA record on the books was Craig James by splitting time with Dickerson. From about 1980 at SMU-1985 Dickerson's was one of the greatest players ever. Period

While Doak did have two championships with the Lions, and Four Pro-bowls, however his pro-career was a very short 5 years. Personally, I think Rote was better as a Pro, and at the very least it's not so obvious as to say "duh!" -CoS
are we discussing length of pro careers or best athlete? he was the best athlete. "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
I see 3 and then a drop-off
1) Eric Dickerson 2) Payne Stewart 3) Hall of Famer Forrest Gregg - Vince Lombardi called him the finest player he ever coached. Played on seven NFL championship teams.
