TexMex WarsBanditos in Snider Plaza is honestly the best I ever had. And they’ve got SWC t-shirts.
Re: TexMex WarsDefinitely like Banditos and its proximity to SMU.
What about Desperados on Greenville, Ojeda's on Maple and Mia's on Lemmon?
Re: TexMex WarsPlease take a moment of silence to remember the recent loss of legendary family TexMex Herrera's, originally on Maple Ave. At SMU, I spent MANY a night sitting on my beer cooler waiting in line for one of their (6?) tables to open up. Grandma's homemade tortillas were transcendent! I followed them from the original tiny shack (which burned) to 5 other locations over the years.
Nothing left in Dallas is even in the same ballpark. With that being said, off the top of my head: Avilla's on Maple Rafa's on Lover's El Vecino in Lakewood Manny's (I believe the great Bob Sharp of Mustang Club fame is involved in the ownership) Uptown is gone, but still in Lakewood Not really TexMex, but you have to throw Gloria's (2 locations on Lemmon Ave + Greenville) in there Would also have to mention Mariano's which is still around (having moved to Skillman), but they get on the list for being in Old Towne back in the day. Many a margarita was consumed by PonyFans there back in the day. Lastly, no list of Mexican themed cuisine would be complete without a nod to Javier's (not TexMex, but yeah...) Re: TexMex WarsBeen away from Dallas too long to be qualified to post on this topic, but years ago I remember favoring the original Ojeda's on Maple and also frequented Tupinamba's on NW HWY across from Bachman lake for lunch with a couple of guys I worked with in those days. It was just o.k. but an Aggie buddy I worked with loved to frequent that place because he knew the Aggie owner. Probably long gone by now.
Where we live now in N.C. our favorite is La Unica (the original in Monroe). Tex Mex does pretty well in the Charlotte area these days but 1st time we visited La Unica (per advice from the hispanic guys building our home), as we were seated they brought chips along with queso dip and about a half dozen salsas with varying degrees of hotness (all complimentary). Great burritos, enchiladas and quacamole salads and of course refritos and frijoles. Makes me hungry just thinking of the place
Re: TexMex WarsTupinamba moved to Central between Walnut Hill and Park, I believe.
Definitely loved Hererras. Are we sure Manny’s Uptown is gone? Seems like I was just there.
Re: TexMex WarsTupinamba on Central has way too much Aggie vibe for me.
Yep, Manny’s Uptown is gonzo.
Re: TexMex Warswhen I lived in Dallas Ojedas on Maple was always one of my favorites.
Re: TexMex WarsHerrera's is alive and well in Oak Cliff on Illinois near Westmoreland. Same menu. And I don't mean to be disrespectful BUT the food is as good or better than the original. Hated to see it close. I, too, have followed Herrera's through all locations. Casa Rosa is back (on Lemmon) and it is really, really good.
Re: TexMex Wars
I think there is still a mannys at mockingbird and abrams....
Re: TexMex WarsManny's is awful. It's like eating plastic.
Try Meso Maya or Javier's.
Re: TexMex Wars
To each his own....I love Manny's. Brisket tacos and quesadillas are down right great. Tortilla soup is good as well.
Re: TexMex WarsFor me it’s Ojeda’s and it’s not even a question. My dad always favored Herreras, but was also a fan of Ojeda’s. I live in Houston now, but try to go to Ojeda’s any chance we get when we visit my parents. I’m getting my MBA at SMU now, so anytime we are on campus for school stuff, it’s Ojeda’s for sure. Graduate this coming May, wife and kids want to go somewhere fancy for a celebratory meal after the commencement, but it’s my day and we’re going to Ojeda’s!
Re: TexMex WarsCuquita's (if it still exists) in Richardson.
The queso con chorizo will change your life. PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Re: TexMex WarsWasn’t there a Cuquitas on Travis about 15 years ago?
Re: TexMex WarsIt was on Henderson ... and it was amazing. Loved that place.
I'm more than happy to go to Richardson if there's still one there.
